i am currently 14 miles outside of buffalo.  i was going to write this a ton sooner into this trip but i was occupied by redesigning my resume (more on that later).  the trip to pittsburgh was a bit of a bust.  rainout, my first one ever since i’ve started going regularly.  i am a bit peeved because i stub-hubbed better tickets than i usual for mothers day.  oh well.  the one good thing is that they [the pirates] let people exchange their tickets for any other game.  insert all you can eat / matt capps bobblehead night here!  i lost some money on the exchange, but at least we got jalapeno hannah mr. potato head…  i just checked and it is mr. potato head on the packaging.  pretty slacker if you ask me, mrs. potato head never gets any respect, even on mothers day!  speaking of, my mother had a good time and that is really all that counts.

in other news, i saw speed racer last night.  i also made the mistake of reading reviews; most of which condemned seeing the movie.  i was well aware of the wachowski brothers prior movies, both success (matrix) and failures (matrix 2 & 3), going into this film.  actually i was pretty excited when i saw the trailer and found out that they were directing as their movies are visually awesome.  let me also say that i liked speed racer as a child ; cool premise fun animation style and so on.  i ponied up the extra bucks and went imax, and let me tell you there is no other way to see this movie.  i’ve never seen an imax movie before, but i can tell you i’m glad i lost my virginity to this movie.  STUNNING, VISUALLY STUNNING!  colors were vibrant, it was like drugs for the eyes!  it made me happy as a designer because, as i told phil, that movie was designed rather than directed.  of course i’m only talking about the visuals here.  the movie as a movie was decent.  the real problem was that it was just too long, easily half an hour could’ve been chopped and thrown on a special dvd.  the story was okay, casting was top notch though.  especially sprittle, my god were he and chim chim sufficiently annoying, just like the cartoon!  the racer x twist was kinda weak too.  but again the movie was amazing to behold.  the best analogy i can think of is a shelby cobra mustang with a four cylinder engine under the hood.  that being said though, i encourage everyone to see it, but don’t waste your time if it’s not in imax.

i’m now 10 minutes from home.  how writing makes the time go.  so as i was saying earlier, i redesigned the resume during the trip home.  personally i love it right now, i think it needs one more visual element.  i may be wrong, i’m going to sleep on it tonight and look again in the morning.  the concept just fell into itself after flipping through the end of Making and Breaking the Grid.  its aligned to a modular grid but i decided to have some fun.  i usually keep stuff pretty strict, but i’m really glad i didn’t this time.  new resume  as always any comments are always encouraged.

this insanely long post is finally over, i gotta pack my crap up to get out of this car.  catch ya…  sorry gotta new quote.  this is from author Chip Kidd in The Learners, “Go ahead and slouch.  Life is short, now you are, too.”  what a great line.
